Alajuela 38 - Sold 2012

This blog is maintained for visitors who are interested in the Alajuela 38 and the modifications that were made to this particular sailing vessel over a period of 17 years, from 1995 to 2012. S/V "Selah" is a 1976 factory built Alajuela 38, traditional full keel cutter. Details about the boat follow. Refer to "Best Boats" © 1982 by Ferenc Mate for more details. This boat (#44) is pictured in that book.

BOAT DESCRIPTION:

Alajuela “38” manufactured by Alajuela Yacht Corp, Costa Mesa , California 1976. Colin Archer/William Atkin design double-ender cutter rig w/ bow sprit - FRP hull & deck; LOA 38’; LWL 32’7"; Beam 11'6"; Draft 5'7"; Displ. 27,000 lbs.: Ballast 10,000 lbs. internal lead; 55’ aluminum keel stepped mast; single stage spreaders; aluminum boom; aluminum bowsprit; pintle & gudgeon stern mounted rudder & tiller. Hull topsides, deck (except teak cockpit) and spars are Awlgrip coated.

8 bronze opening ports w/ port light rain covers; varnished wood interior; teak & holly cabin sole; painted overhead w/ varnished trim; forward master stateroom w/ large double v-berth & settee; sky light in main cabin; forward hatch over v-berth; large port & starboard cockpit storage lockers; lazerette; anchor chain locker with divider; custom dinette table; sleeping capacity for 5 on 2 midships settee sea berths & pilot berth with lee clothes and large double v-berth forward. Exposed areas of hull insulated with 1/2" closed cell foam insulation.
